Our homes take up a very small part of our Earth but we attempt to minimize the "footprint" of each of our homes; below are some of our principles as well as the steps we take in support of global sustainability.

All of our homes are located in Knoxville's center city and historic neighborhoods; we believe that         by restoring these homes, we are doing a small part to thwart suburban sprawl.

The vast majority of our homes are located within a few blocks of public transportation thereby                   minimizing the need to utlilize single-occupant vehicular travel.

We support and promote Knox County's Metropolitan Planning Commission's Smart Trips.

We encourage our residents to recycle and educate them on nearby recycling centers as well as              curbside recycling. Click here for a link to the city's recycling centers.

We use natural, organic cleaners whenever possible.

We restore and installed hardwood floors which minimizes resources in the production,                        replacement and cleaning of carpets.

We promote the Farmers' Market on Market Square and educate our residents about it, as well                 as Three Rivers Market in north Knoxville...both of which promote fairtrade, organic and local                 produce and goods.

We provide at no charge replacement air filters on a monthly basis to ensure efficient operation                resulting in lower energy consumption; where possible, we utilize reusable filters.

We install low energy consumption appliances.

We replace incandescent bulbs with compact flourescents at time of replacement.

In our restorations, we install copious amounts of insulation to reduce energy consumption.

We educate our residents on energy saving tips.

We install efficient replacement windows or storm windows to minimize energy consumption.

We always attempt to minimize the use of paper by heavy use of web advertising and choosing
e-mail over snail mail; when paper is necessary, we use only 100% recycled paper & envelopes.

We use only the highest quality roofing materials with the longest lifespan in order to minimize resources used in production and transportation while minimizing disposal costs.
